Hon Wasiu Adeleke Balogun, the youngest Councillor in Lagos State representing Ward B, Bariga Local Council on Thursday, 18th August, 2022 commissioned his constituency office also empowered 30 members of his constituency with Point of Sale (POS) machines.
Speaking at the event, the youngest Councillor, Hon Wasiu, said the reason for the constituency office is for easy accessibility and flow of information.
“This phenomenal advance in grassroots democratisation is in response to the comments and observations of our people, particularly during the last council elections, to the effect that many citizens do not know the councillors in their wards as well as their roles. Many of those who know the councillors and understand their role complain that they do not have access to them. Therewith, prompted this constituency office for robust engagements and collectivism.”
While speaking on the empowerment, he said, when people are fruitfully engaged, reasonably empowered and gainfully employed, unemployment level would reduce, the rate of crimes committed within the community will be drastically reduced, economic activities would be boosted and socio-economic developed would be guaranteed.
He added that, the programme is also to give back to the people of his ward and to also spread prosperity while emphasizing that beneficiaries should take Maximal use of the Point of Sale (POS) machines.
He concluded by thanking the people of his ward for their support, since his emergence as the Councillor of the ward.
The Leader of the House, Hon Temitope Okanlawo delivered the opening speech on behalf of the Council Chairman, Hon Kolade David Alabi, he said, the purpose of having constituency office is to cushion the effect of the Council proximity to the ward. It will avail the people of the ward to table down their views, which the Councillor can present to the Council Chairman.
Hon Akin Mejolagbe and Hon Bukola Adedeji the LGA Chairman and the Secretary to the Local Government respectively in turn advised the beneficiaries on better usage of the empowerment POS machines.
Mrs Diya cut the ribbon for the official opening of the constituency office.
The colourful event which was compere by Otunba Adegboyega Adefuwa, The Supervisor for Environment was well attended, had in attendance the following dignitaries; Hon.
